Jumping on the bandwagon From the Page 2 mailbag |
We know Kobe has a thing for championships, and we're glad to see him out there backing baseball, but Page 2 couldn't understand why the L.A. star would be carrying Thunder Stix (which are clearly past their 15 minutes).
We asked our readers for their take on this week's Mystery Photo. Here are the best of the more than 650 responses we received.
"Now, let's see Shaq try to steal my thunder."
"Babe, don't you remember what happened last time I tried to clap with my hands? The sparks from all my rings nearly set the house on fire."
"Wait a minute! This isn't a second fiddle! How am I supposed to play with these things?"
"I'll tell you what, Vanessa, you got it good. ... I never had toys like this in my Happy Meal."
Much like the rest of the "fans" in Anaheim, I know a Dodger fan in a red shirt when I see one.
"Now Kobe, after this we're going to my high school's football game, right?"
Eckstein for Fisher, Percival for Horry, Anderson for Fox. Go ahead, switch it up -- we still get a ring.
"Oh, well you see, Honey ... the fans don't need these at the Staples Center. We've got officials to help us win championships."
"Thunder Stix? Aww, honey, I thought these were jumbo freeze pops!"
"Oh, man, I hope these things don't catch on ... Shaq's NEVER gonna hit another free throw."
Kobe is using the Thunder Stix so he doesn't break his hand from clapping, like Spree.
"Vanessa, baby, you'd better put those down ... It says right here 'Ages 14 and up.' "
"Hey Vanessa, c'mon, I could care less about baseball or the Angels ... how do I look in red?"
"Yes we can ... cool ... that's what we said when people told us we couldn't get married in high school."
Kobe is seen here shooting his latest commercial. The Viagra endorsement team told the media that Anaheim's Thunder Stix and "Yes we can" motto seemed to fit seemlessly into their ad campaign.
"All right!!! New toys for the pools!"
"Hey, Sweetie, let's take these home, maybe Shaq can use them between his toes."
Actually someone in the row sitting a couple of seats down from the Bryants bought these Stixs from the aisle vendor ... Kobe's inability to pass prevented the fan from receiving them.
"Just helping Vanessa get her Girl Scout badge"
And here is the real caption from The Associated Press: Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant waves his Thunder Stix as his wife Vanessa looks on prior to the start of Game 2 of the World Series between the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants in Anaheim, Calif., Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002.
