HONOLULU -- The U.S. Olympic softball team wound up its
exhibition schedule Thursday with an 11-0 victory over Hawaii
Pacific University.
The game, which marked the 110th consecutive victory for Team USA,
was called midway through the fifth inning because of the 10-run
mercy rule.
Lori Harrigan and Christa Williams held HPU hitless, striking
out nine of the 15 batters they faced.
Jennifer Brundage went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Team USA. Dot
Richardson, Lisa Fernandez and Sheila Douty drove in two runs
apiece.
Team USA took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before HPU pitcher
Jennifer Woodard settled down and retired the side in order in the
second and third innings. The U.S. team then scored eight runs in
the fourth.
Team USA now heads to Sydney to play Canada on Sept. 16.
