Luck Finally Turns U.S.'s Way

Michele Smith hit the tying home run.

The U.S. players say revenge wasn't the motivation behind their 2-1 victory against Japan that gave them the gold medal. The Americans completed its clean sweep over the three teams that had beaten them earlier in the tournament. But the key in such an important game as this was concentration, not to mention the bit of good luck that had been missing so far in Sydney.
