His hands: I would not consider him a handsy goalie, more of a blocker of the puck. It's all about positioning. His feet: Pretty good for a big guy. Can get down on the butterfly pretty quick and take away the low part of the net. Has to be square to the shooter. His stick: Playing the puck is not one of his strengths and pokechecking rarely comes into play for him. His technique: Plays a big man's butterfly and uses percentages. Every move has a purpose. Not a very good scrambler in the crease.
Roman Cechmanek, Philadelphia
His hands: It is the biggest glove in the world. He doesn't catch pucks, he blocks them. I wouldn't call him a good hands guy. His feet: He covers plenty of net down there. Has good feet. His stick: Not great at playing the puck but in close, but is very good at pokechecking. It's like he sucks them into thinking there is more time and, whack, there goes the puck. His technique: Unpredictable. His teammates never know, how does the other team? Darren Pang, a former goaltender with the Chicago Blackhawks, is a hockey analyst for ESPN. |
