The lowdown
2000-01 record: 22-7; 12-4 in Colonial (1st)
Final Ranking: NR
Postseason: Lost to Dayton 71-56 in second round of NIT.
Three Questions for 2001-02
1. How fast can Spiders adjust to the A-10 level of play?
2. Must find a replacement for last season's leading scorer Greg Stevenson.
3. Five departed seniors, but only two of those starters -- along with 50 percent of the Spiders' scoring -- were lost with graduation. Still, Richmond will need to gain experience quickly -- at least before the A-10 season starts.
Three Key Facts
1. As if moving to the A-10 isn't challenge enough, the Spiders schedule includes road trips to 2000 NCAA Tournament teams Wake Forest, Charlotte and Cincinnati.
2. Reggie Brown, who will be asked to lead the Spiders this season, has averaged just over 10 points during his first two seasons. But he has shown signs of breaking out at times, scoring over 20 points in consecutive games against Mississippi State, Old Dominion and George Washington last season -- including a career-high 28 at GW.
3. In four years as head coach of the Spiders, John Beilein has complied a 78-39 record. His contract was extended this summer through the 2008 season.
Andy Katz's Scenarios
Best case: Probably third in the West.
Worst case: Still have the possibility of sliding, but not too much further than fourth.
