The lowdown
2000-01 record: 14-18; 6-10 in A-10 (7th)
Final Ranking: NR
Postseason: None
Three Questions for 2001-02
1. Can Chris Monroe carry the load alone, now that SirValient Brown is being paid to score in the NBA?
2. How quickly can Colonials form a new chemistry with the new coaching staff. What about stability?
3. Following the suspension of center Attila Cosby, can Smith provide the needed inside scoring to strike a balance between inside and outside points?
Three Key Facts
1. GW is Karl Hobbs' first head coaching job after serving as an assistant under Jim Calhoun at UConn for the past eight seasons.
2. GW and Massachusetts are the only schools that have remained in the A-10 since its start in 1976. Then it was known as the Eastern Collegiate Basketball League and consisted of eight teams.
3. The Colonials must improve on the road, where they were 2-8 a year ago.
Andy Katz's Scenarios
Best case: The talent is still in place to win the West.
Worst case: Finish fourth in the West and out of the postseason.
