The lowdown
2000-01 record: 21-8; 12-4 in A-10 (2nd)
Final Ranking: NR
Postseason: Lost to Notre Dame 83-71 in first round of NCAA Tournament
Three Questions for 2001-02
1. First order of business, replacing Maurice McAfee and Lloyd Price, especially their perimeter scoring.
2. How tough will adjusting to a new coach and a new system be for experienced Musketeers.
3. Must find another scorer outside of David West inside.
Three Key Facts
1. Reigning A-10 player of the year, not to mention 2001 Playboy All-American, David West returns -- along with three other starters -- off a team that finished with at least 20 wins for the fifth straight season. Xavier's 21 victories last season came with just one senior in the starting lineup.
2. Former coach Skip Prosser, who left Xavier for Wake Forest, also took along prized recruit Vytas Danelius of Lithuania. The 6-7, 210-pound Danelius averaged 19 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks this past season, shooting 70.2 percent at Indianapolis Park Tudor.
3. The Musketeers upgraded their schedule with four NCAA Tournament teams of a year ago -- home games vs. Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Kent State and a trip to Creighton. Xavier also plays at Purdue and Miami University.
Andy Katz's Scenarios
Best case: Win the West and get into the NCAA Tournament
Worst case: If the Musketeers can't win on the road then third is a possibility.
