Throughout Minnesota's inaugural training camp, Scott Pellerin will give ESPN.com users an up-close look at the Wild. Pellerin, a seven-year NHL veteran who might be the team's first captain, checks in with Day 7 -- guess who Pellerin's linemates are and who he talked to on the phone. If you want to ask Pellerin a question or send him a comment, click here. When Pellerin finds some time between skating, naps and his family he'll try to answer a few of the best ones. We had a great practice Wednesday -- with 36 players still on the ice. The arena we are at has two ice sheets. We practiced on one for the first hour where we worked on defensive-zone coverage, 3-on-3s and 3-on-2s. We did a lot of new drills, and they had us going pretty hard. When the ice got rough, we moved to the other ice sheet. There, we talked more about our responsibilities on the ice, in our zone and on the forecheck. I'm playing on a line with Wes Walz and Marian Gaborick -- the Wild's first round draft pick. They are both great players, and they can really fly. The coaching staff of Jacques Lemaire, Mario Tremblay and Mike Ramsey have been great. They have so much experience, and our practices so far have been difficult but fun. Their experience is going to be key for all of us this season.
I envy those guys because they are settled with their families and their homes. We are in a hotel and, our home in St. Louis is being packed up tomorrow by movers. Our stuff should be here by next week. We are looking forward to getting settled soon and making a home here in Minnesota. They Wild's new rink is getting closer to being completed. We haven't been inside yet, but we saw on the news that they just put the ice in for the first time. I saw that they had painted the lines and logo on the ice. The logo is really striking and looks awesome on the ice. I can't wait to play there -- I think it will be one of the best arenas in the league. Another practice tomorrow, and preseason games are just around the corner with only six days until our first game. We have a lot of work to do. |
