Checking out the lakes

Throughout Minnesota's inaugural training camp, Scott Pellerin will check in with the goings on with the Wild. Scott, a seven-year NHL veteran who might be the team's first captain, checks in with Day 3 -- another scrimmage loss and an injured rabbit.

I knew what I had to do when I got the the rink this (Saturday) morning: Make my equipment feel better.

Tony, our trainer, changed the hollow of my skates, and I made some adjustments to my sticks and pants. I felt much better on the ice.

Our team played a better game today. What a difference from yesterday. The guys seemed to be more in control, playing their positions and running around a lot less. We played the Green Team, and it was tied but they scored with 48 seconds left for the win. I could see that the guys, and myself, were feeling more confident. Our line got a goal, and I hope we can built on that.

After the game, I went to the training room to get some ice and saw the team doctor stitching up a little rabbit. Not what you'd expect to see at an NHL training camp! Apparently, he found it in his yard and brought it in to stitch up its injured leg. I felt like I was in an episode of animal ER. Last I heard it was resting comfortably ... We'll see how it is doing tomorrow.

The games were open to the public today. It was great to have some fans in the arena. They had a barbecue outside for them, and the players were invited to get some food. The kids were excited to get our autographs and a bunch of us hung out for a little bit and talked. Stuff like this makes it feel more like a team.

I'm feeling pretty tired today and am glad to have a later game tomorrow. We needed a change of scenery from the hotel room, so we drove around the area a bit and really like it. We saw a couple of the 10,000 lakes that we hear are in this state. We stopped by to see Jamie McLennan and then bumped into Stacy Roest and his wife in the grocery store.

Lets hope we can pull off a win tomorrow.
