Nashville Predators: The team signed defensemen Marek Zidlicky and Curtis Murphy on Tuesday.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Zidlicky, 26, led defensemen and tied for fifth overall in scoring in the Finnish Elite League last season with 47 points. The Czech Republic native also tied for HIFK Helsinki's team lead in scoring.
He was acquired in December from the New York Rangers, along with Rem Murray and Tomas Kloucek, for goaltender Mike Dunham. Zidlicky was the Rangers' sixth-round draft choice in 2001.
``Marek is a talented defenseman who will be given an opportunity to compete for a Predators roster position this fall,'' Nashville general manager David Poile said.
Murphy, 27, played in one game last season for the Minnesota Wild. He had 23 goals and 31 assists in 80 games with the Houston Aeros of the AHL.
He was acquired from Minnesota for defenseman Peter Smrek on June 26. Minnesota Wild: Goalie Johan Holmqvist re-signed Tuesday with a multiyear contract.
Holmqvist, 25, was acquired by the Wild in March from the New York Rangers. He went 5-3 with a 2.88 goals-against average for Houston, Minnesota's AHL affiliate. He was chosen as the playoff MVP for the Calder Cup champion Aeros.
A native of Sweden, Holmqvist was picked by the Rangers in the seventh round of the 1997 draft.
He's played four NHL games over three seasons, all with New York. |
