Los Angeles Kings: Free agent forward Trent Klatt signed a two-year, $2.2 million contract Monday. Klatt had 16 goals and 13 assists last season while playing all 82 games with the Vancouver Canucks. He also played in Vancouver's 14 postseason games, scoring two goals and adding four assists. "It's very disappointing to be leaving Vancouver," Klatt said in a conference call. "The last five years have been nothing short of fantastic. But I'm looking forward to the opportunity in Los Angeles." The 32-year-old right wing has 126 career goals and 174 assists in 11 NHL seasons with the Stars franchise, Philadelphia and Vancouver. "I have to take what I've learned to Los Angeles with me and hopefully fit in there and help them to a championship," he said. Kings general manager Dave Taylor believes Klatt will be a leader on the ice and off. "Trent will be a solid addition to the Kings and a player that our fans will appreciate on a nightly basis," Kings general manager Dave Taylor said in a statement. "He has a real strong work ethic, and we expect him to bring some offensive production and all-around leadership to our hockey club." The former University of Minnesota star, had been with the Canucks since October 1998. He scored a career-best 24 goals with Philadelphia when the Flyers reached the Stanley Cup finals in the 1996-97 season. Klatt made his NHL debut during the 1991-92 season with the North Stars, when present Kings coach Andy Murray was a Minnesota assistant. Klatt went with the club when the franchise moved from Minnesota to Dallas for the 1993-94 season.
A 6-foot-1 211-pounder, Chouinard was 2-0-0 for AHL Binghamton with a 1.97 goals-against average and 12-2-0 for ECHL Peoria, where he had a 2.12 GAA and three shutouts. Phoenix Coyotes: The team re-signed restricted free agent Landon Wilson to a one-year deal. The right wing played 31 games for the Coyotes last season, recording six goals, eight assists and 26 penalty minutes. He missed the last 51 games of the regular season because of an eye injury sustained during a Dec. 13 game against Washington. Wilson has spent three seasons with the Coyotes after being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1993. Information from The Associated Press and SportsTicker was used in this report. |
