Tigers sign nation's top-ranked class

By Tom Lemming
ESPN.com

If you ever wondered why the SEC is routinely listed as the toughest conference in the nation, Signing Day was a pretty good indication. LSU finished No. 1, Florida was No. 2 and Tennessee rallied to the No. 9 spot. South Carolina (No. 12) and Georgia (No. 13) finished just outside the top 10. It's all about talent. Here's my breakdown of the top classes in the SEC:

1. LSU TIGERS
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
What can you say about the No. 1 class in the country? The Tigers recruited their needs -- and more.
QB JaMarcus Russell:Strong-armed young man who throws extremely well on the run or in the pocket. DB Daryl Johnson: Great range, good leaping ability and outstanding anticipation.

2. FLORIDA GATORS
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
After QB Chris Leak committed, the floodgates opened and the blue chips didn't stop coming until Signing Day.
QB Chris Leak: The No. 1 prospect in the country has tremendous awareness, a super release and great confidence. DL Michael Hill: Underrated player is strong and aggressive with good balance and excellent instincts.

3. TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
The Vols started slow, but rallied to sign four All-Americans on Signing Day.
LB Dan Brooks: Dominant ball player with explosive speed and a great understanding of the game.
DB Roshaun Fellows: Tremendous recovery speed. Blends great size with coverage skills and instincts.

4. SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
Lou Holtz and his staff were masterful in-state and in the junior college ranks.
RB Demetris Summers: Summers possesses all the tools for greatness: good size and excellent speed to go with tremendous balance, vision, strength and moves. LB Marcus Lawrence: Tremendous JUCO player who will be able to contribute immediately.

5. GEORGIA BULLDOGS
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
The Bulldogs did a great job in-state, signing 10 of the 13 players in Georgia.
RB Kregg Lumpkin: Great combination of size, speed and power. Also shows good wiggle.
DL Richard Cook: An explosive ball player with an aggressive nature, quick feet and outstanding balance.
