Hurricanes No.1, but Eagles, Hokies solid

By Tom Lemming
ESPN.com

Miami had the best recruiting class in the Big East again in 2003. The 'Canes lured super QB prospect Kyle Wright from California and cleaned up in Florida. RB Tyrone Moss, LBs Tavares Gooden and Vegas Franklin and OLs Andrew Bain and Cyrim Wimbs highlight the nation's No. 6 class. However, Boston College and Virginia Tech also had tremendous efforts. The Eagles snared RB Andre Callender, DBs Brad Mueller and Dorien Bryant and TE Ryan Poles. LB Xavier Adibi, DL Chris Ellis and LB Vince Hall are at the core of the Hokies' terrific class. Here's my breakdown of the top classes in the Big East:

1. MIAMI HURRICANES
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
Completely dominated recruiting in South Florida. Great start and good finish.
QB Kyle Wright: Quick release, excellent throwing motion, accurate and smart. DL Eric Moncur: Small, but destructive. Quick and good feet.

2. BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLES
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
One of the best classes in BC history. Lots of speed in the group.
DB Dorien Bryant: Explosive burst, speed and great cover skills. Can play right away at DB or WR. DL Gosder Cherilus: As much potential as any OL in the country.

3. VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
Not a great year for talent in Virginia, but what was there, the Hokies landed, including the top three.
LB Xavier Adibi: Big-time player with explosive speed and great understanding of the game.
DL Barry Booker: Great size and explosive moves.

4. PITTSBURGH PANTHERS
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
Not a lot of difference makers, but an extremely solid class.
LB Horatio Blades: Panthers staff expects him to challenge for starting spot as a freshman. DE Kyle Smith: Could move to DT. Good quickness, nose for the ball.

5. SYRACUSE ORANGEMEN
   The Skinny  Key Recruit  Sleeper
Syracuse did an OK job in the East. Staff is excited about this crop.
DL Eric Ball: Exceptional closing speed and good ability to avoid blocks.
RB Breyone Evans: Bruising fullback with good quickness.
