JOSH HEUPEL -- OKLAHOMA
Josh Heupel
Heupel
Breaking it down: Well, who knew this was coming? Yes, he had a good season last year, but c'mon, this was out of hand. Going into Saturday's Big 12 championship game against Kansas State, the left-handed senior has thrown for 3,172 yards and 18 TDs. He also scored six TDs rushing. More importantly, he played big when OU needed him. Examples? Heupel was 29 of 37 for 374 yards against then No. 3 K-State and 20 of 34 for 300 yards against then No. 1 Nebraska. He was also 17 of 27 for 275 yards and a TD in a 63-14 win over then No. 10 Texas. Those three wins propelled the Sooners into the national spotlight and a No. 1 ranking. And Heupel's play in those games makes him one of the favorites for the award.
