We might occasionally stretch the truth a little here at Page 2, but at least we're more up front about it than Penthouse magazine.

As you know by now, those topless photos were too good to be true. Kinda like our Forum letter about a Page 2 editor, Anna Kournikova, Jamie Salé and the Space Shuttle that Penthouse still refuses to publish.

But we digress.

Inspired by a certain men's periodical, we figured it was time for Bizarre & Bogus -- where we only lie about one event in six.

Below we've compiled five strange-but-true sports-related stories and one that we made up. Guess which one you believe is fake, then click here to see which item isn't true.

  • No. 1 Washington State University's president wants to significantly cut the short-hand term for the school, "Wazzu," from T-shirts, coffee mugs, and other school-related products.

  • No. 2 A man who campaigned in a monkey costume he uses in his job as a mascot for the local soccer team was elected mayor of Hartlepool, England.

  • No. 3 Derek Bell, who was dumped by the Pittsburgh Pirates before this season after his "Operation Shutdown," has started a company that is purchasing assets (such as computer equipment and domain names) from failed dot-com companies.

  • No. 4 Musician Sheryl Crow wanted to perform and film a music video in Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s basement.

  • No. 5 The Washington Mystics of the WNBA will pay their players $50 every time one of them says the ticket-sales phone number during an interview.

  • No. 6 Organizers of the European Golf Tour's French Open had to hastily build a new 15th green at Le Golf National because of excessive feeding and droppings by geese and seagulls.
