WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown may have a sleepless night. His star guard, Allen Iverson, left tonight's 117-97 exhibition victory over the Washington Wizards early in the fourth quarter with a sprained left ankle. Iverson, the NBA's second-leading scorer last season behind Shaquille O'Neal, suffered the injury with 11:39 remaining while battling for a rebound. He was carried to the Philadelphia locker room and did not return. Precautionary X-rays showed no fracture, but Iverson will be examined again in Philadelphia on Saturday by team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy. Before leaving, Iverson scored 20 points, helping the Sixers (4-1) open an 88-78 third-quarter lead. George Lynch added 16 and Aaron McKie 12 for Philadelphia, which has won three straight. Rod Strickland scored 19 for the Wizards (2-3), who trailed 63-54 at the half. Washington pulled within 76-74 on Jahidi White's basket before the Sixers began to pull away late in the third quarter. White had 15 points and Juwan Howard 10 for Washington.
