LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Larry Hughes scored 24 points and Mookie Blaylock made three quick steals during a third-quarter run before leaving with an injury as the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 106-96 Friday night at Staples Center. The Cavaliers closed to 100-93 with three minutes remaining, but Hughes sealed the victory with a 16-foot baseline jumper and two free throws in the final 23 seconds. Chris Gatling led Cleveland (1-4) with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Blaylock intercepted passes by Langdon, Matt Harpring and Lamond Murray in a 3:18 span of the third quarter, leading to a pair of 17-footers by Vinny Del Negro and a driving layup by Blaylock. The steals helped fuel a 17-2 run that extended the Warriors' lead to 80-54 with seven minutes left in the period. Blaylock, who has 10 straight seasons averaging at least two steals per game, finished the game with six. He sprained his right index finger about midway through the third quarter and did not return. The Warriors (3-2) took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Hughes with less than two minutes left in the first quarter, then built their margin to 63-52 with a 9-0 run in the final minute of the half. Erick Dampier started the rally with a reverse layup, Blaylock hit a 3-pointer after intercepting an outlet pass by Mark Bryant, Chris Mills made a running jumper and Antawn Jamison sank two free throws to give Golden State its biggest lead of the half. On the play that sent him to the line _ a foul by Harpring _ Jamison landed hard on the floor and sprained his wrist. He didn't play in the second half. The Warriors beat the Seattle SuperSonics Thursday in the opener of this four-team round-robin tournament hosted by the Los Angeles Lakers. The Cavaliers beat the Lakers on Thursday.
