ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Valeri Kamensky scored 3:03 into overtime as the New York Rangers spoiled the opening of Philips Arena with a 3-2 exhibition victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Kamensky beat Norm Maracle from the inside edge of the slot for his second preseason goal. It disappointed a crowd of 17,552 at the building that will house the NHL's latest expansion team.

New York jumped to a 2-0 lead as Petr Nedved and Adam Graves scored 33 seconds apart late in the opening period.

But Patrik Stefan, the top overall pick in the 1999 draft, scored his first preseason goal midway through the second period and Mike Stapleton tied it with 2:41 to go in the period.

Rookies J.F. Labbe and Milan Hnilicka combined for 24 saves for the Rangers, who improved to 2-1. Labbe played the first 33 1/2 minutes and stopped 18 of 19 shots.
