A Heisman For the Ages

Chris Weinke
Florida State quarterback Chris Weinke won the 2000 Heisman Trophy.
In the end, the only thing that mattered was performance. While some focused on the fact Florida State's Chris Weinke is 28, most Heisman voters looked at the fact he threw for 4,167 yards and 33 TDs or the fact he guided FSU to an 11-1 record and a chance at a second consecutive national title. That's what was important and that's why Weinke won the 2000 Heisman Trophy in a close race over Oklahoma's Josh Heupel.

A look at the four finalists:
  • Purdue's Drew Brees
  • Oklahoma's Josh Heupel
  • TCU's LaDainian Tomlinson
  • Florida State's Chris Weinke
