OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After a record setting performance this past week, the Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, announced today the selection of Washington's Kristen Rivera as the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of February 24-March 2. Rivera, a catcher from Perris, Calif., led the Huskies to a 5-0 mark at the Fullerton Worth Invitational as Washington improved to 17-0-1 and remains as the only undefeated team in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll. Over the weekend, Rivera hit .571 (8-for-14) with a double, four home runs and 12 RBI. Against Purdue, she hit three home runs in three at-bats to set a new Washington record. She scored three runs against the Boilermakers and notched five RBI. She was also 2-for-3 against both No. 25 Pacific and upstart Northwestern with two runs scored and six RBI combined. Rivera drew two walks over the course of the tournament and failed to strikeout. Behind the plate she was flawless with a perfect fielding percentage and threw out the only base runner that attempted to steal. For the season, Rivera is hitting .500 (28-for-56) with two doubles, 10 home runs, 27 RBI and has scored 16 runs. With their weekend performance, the Washington Huskies are off to their best start in their 11-year history with a 17-0-1 record. "Kristen is an amazing athlete offensively and defensively," said Washington head coach Teresa Wilson. "She does a great job for us and she's someone who is going to have a long career in this sport." The USA Softball National Player of the Week is designed to acknowledge outstanding athletic achievement by individuals on a weekly basis.
