OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, announced today the selection of Tennessee freshman sensation Stacey Jennings as the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of February 17-23.
The highlight of her week came against the UNLV Rebels. In just her seventh start of her collegiate career, she struck out six Rebels on the way to retiring all 21 batters she faced to record the first perfect game in the programs history. She not only led the Volunteers in the circle but also at the plate. For the week she was a combined 9-for-18 (.500) with eight RBI, three home runs and two doubles. In a 3-2 win over University of Louisiana-Monroe, she hit a three-run home run to account for the club's only offense and also notched the win with a 4.2 inning relief stint. The USA Softball National Player of the Week is designed to acknowledge outstanding athletic achievement by individuals on a weekly basis. Each recipient of the USA Softball National Player of the Week Award will receive an engraved plaque and will be national recognized for their accomplishments. A complete list of winners can be found on the USA Softball web site at www.usasoftball.com. The Amateur Softball Association, founded in 1933, is the National Governing Body of amateur softball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee. As the National Governing Body, the ASA is responsible for identifying, selecting and training male and female athletes to compete in World, Pan American and Olympic competitions. It is also responsible for promoting and growing the sport of softball across the country. |
