Fullerton's Hockett named Player of the Week

Amateur Softball Association

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, announced today the selection of Cal State Fullerton shortstop Amanda Hockett as the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of February 10-16.

Hockett, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., was the catalyst for the Titan's this past weekend, leading Fullerton to a 4-1 record and a second place tie in the standings with Nebraska and LSU at the 2003 UNLV Desert Softball Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.

For the week, Hockett hit .643 (9-for-14) with three home runs and nine RBI. She had at least two hits in all but one game and had an extra base hit in all but one game. She hit a three-run home run to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Titans to a 6-1 win over South Carolina. She tied a career-high with four RBI in the game. She also had an RBI triple and a run-scoring sac fly to account for two of Fullerton's three runs in a close 4-3 loss to LSU.

She led the team in five different offensive categories this past week, including slugging percentage (1.429), while ranking second in walks and on-base percentage (.667). Hockett moved into fifth place on the career home run charts (25) and RBI lists (103) at Fullerton with her performance this past weekend.

The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievements by collegiate softball players on a weekly basis. Each winner will receive a plaque recognizing their accomplishments and will be recognized on the USA Softball web site (www.usasoftball.com) and on ESPN.com.

The Amateur Softball Association, founded in 1933, is the National Governing Body of amateur softball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee. As the National Governing Body, the ASA is responsible for identifying, selecting and training male and female athletes to compete in World, Pan American and Olympic competitions.
