BCS should give way to playoff

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Dec. 10
Each week I post my "Dick's Dow Jones" report on whose stock is up and whose is down from across the world of sports.

Notre Dame finally got its head coach in George O'Leary. The more I talk to people about O'Leary, the more I think the Irish got the right man for the job. He did a solid job at Georgia Tech.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't look pretty in beating winless Detroit. Give a salute to Keyshawn Johnson, who has had a super season. He made a couple of big-time catches in the final drive, including his first touchdown of the season. Tony Dungy's team takes on Chicago next week.

Matt Bonner is becoming a PTPer for coach Billy Donovan and the Gators. Bonner had back-to-back career-high scoring games; first he had 23 big points in a win over Michigan State, then 31 at South Florida. Seth Greenberg's team was fired up, but Bonner and the Gators came through with the W.

Nick Rolovich put up incredible numbers against BYU. The Hawaii quarterback threw eight touchdown passes, finishing with 543 yards as the Cougars gave up 72 points.

The BCS. It is time for a playoff. I can understand why Colorado and Oregon are upset to be left out of the Rose Bowl against Miami. I think a playoff could be accomplished -- we need to settle the championship on the field.

Randy Moss' comments last week, saying that he doesn't always play hard, was a total disgrace. It's an embarrassment for the fans, his teammates and his coaches. I don't care how many catches he had Sunday or how many yards -- for an athlete being paid that well to say he doesn't give it his all on every play is a shame, a disgrace.

BYU football gets a stock down, especially the defense. At age 62, I could have come out of retirement and run off tackle and gained 20 yards!
