Phillies' Rolen on a roll

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Aug. 13
Each week I will post my "Dick's Dow Jones" report on whose stock is up and whose is down from across the world of sports.

I'm going with Scott Rolen -- he's been on fire for the Phillies. This guy has been unbelievable over the past week, both his fielding and his hitting. He came in with a big reputation, and everybody thought he'd be an instant superstar; while he's been a real solid player, he's never attained that superstar status. But after Dallas Green ripped the kid, Rolen seemed to respond emotionally in a positive way. Now the Phillies are back on top, as the Braves have lost five in as row.

Also, stock up to Mark Mulder and Tim Hudson. You may disagree, but to me they are the best lefty-righty combination in the American League. They have been sensational. I would rate them ahead of Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens in the AL. The only lefty-righty 1-2 punch that's better right now would be Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson in the National League. Mulder is 7-0 since the All-Star break with an ERA under 2.00, and the A's have won 11 straight after their sweep of the Yankees.

Plus, stock up to Monica Seles, who went to the finals of the last two tournaments she's played in. She's beaten the likes of Jennifer Capriati, Serena Williams and Martina Hingis twice. Don't count Seles out in the U.S. Open.

Cubs pitcher Kevin Tapani is 0-8 since the All-Star break. The Cubs need his right arm if they're going to stay ahead of the Astros.

Also, Pete Sampras lost in the second round at Cincinnati -- and then he's crying about the balls! C'mon, Peter, get that serve going.

Plus, the Braves have lost five in a row. With Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine, you would think that would be tough. The Braves really have to find a way to get a W, because the Phillies look like they're for real, baby!
