Capriati's stock keeps rising

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

June 11
Each week I will post my "Dick's Dow Jones" report on whose stock is up and whose is down from across the world of sports.

Jennifer Capriati
Jennifer Capriati defeated Martina Hingis 6-4, 6-3 in the French Open semifinals.

Jennifer Capriati has really turned things around in her life. I remember seeing her when she was a 10-year-old, early in her tennis career. She was playing my daughter and she played great. I saw Capriati when she won a tourney for 18-year-olds -- Jennifer was just 12!

Then she hit some rough times off the court. Now she has rebounded and put her life back together, both on and off the court. Her victory in the French Open made her the first woman to win the first two legs of the Grand Slam in the same season since Monica Seles in 1992. Next up is Wimbledon, and Capriati is playing as well as anyone.

Also, stock up to the Colorado Avalanche! I don't know much about red lines, blue lines or green lines, but I got caught up watching Game 7 against the Devils. What an emotional performance! And it was great seeing Ray Bourque skating around with the Stanley Cup, winning the championship after 22 years.

Then there was Patrick Roy, who was simply brilliant in the nets. It's amazing to win three playoff MVP awards in three different decades.

Martina Hingis is No. 1 in the world of tennis, but it is a soft No. 1 right now. To be on top, you have to be able to win the Grand Slam tournaments.

Martina had a chance, but lost to Capriati at the French Open. Hingis hasn't won a Grand Slam singles title since 1999, when she captured the Australian. Her stock has slid a bit.
