January 18, 2000 ESPN has sold out its gold and associate sponsorships for its upcoming fourth annual Winter X Games, it was announced today by Ed Erhardt, president, advertising sales and customer marketing, ESPN / ABC Sports. The signature winter alternative sports competition will mark the ninth X Games event (five summer, four winter) in less than five years. All five of last year's Winter X Games gold sponsors -- 1-800-CALL-ATT for Collect Calls, Nike ACG, Mountain Dew, Taco Bell Corp., and Volkswagen of America, Inc. -- have renewed their commitments for this year's event. Joining them as a gold sponsor will be newcomer Motorola, Inc. Returning associate sponsors include the United States Marine Corps., MILK, White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and Speed Stick. First time associate sponsors include Adobe Systems Incorporated, Bagel Bites, Pac Sun, PowerBar, and Wrigley's Winterfresh. "The prime value of the Winter X Games is reflected in the overwhelming response by blue chip brands like Nike, Taco Bell, and Motorola to the sponsorship opportunities for this year's event," said Erhardt. "The X Games is an extremely valuable marketing vehicle for power brands to target fans who are captivated by these unique sports." Sponsorship benefits include a comprehensive package on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Radio, and ESPN.com, as well as complete on-site signage and hospitality opportunities. In addition, each gold sponsor receives placement adjacent to a special "Winter X Games Preview" in ESPN The Magazine. ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC Sports will devote 18 hours of programming to the Winter X Games beginning February 4 through February 8, 2000. The event will feature 250 of the world's best athletes competing in snowboarding, snowmobile snocross, skiing, skiboarding, and snow mountain bike racing. The Winter X Games will originate for the first time from the Mount Snow Resort in Mount Snow, Vermont. |
