Background: Once considered the glamour team of MLS, the Galaxy wants to end its run of playoff disappointments and get back to the
title game in Foxboro, where in the 1996 championship match it blew
a two-goal lead in the final 20 minutes to D.C. United. Colorado
comes in riding an MLS-record 499-minute scoreless streak.
Regular season: Galaxy: 20-12 (1st place); Rapids: 20-12 (4th
place).
Season series: 2-2.
Schedule Game 1: Oct. 17: At Los Angeles 3, Colorado 0 Game 2: Oct. 24: Los Angeles 2, at Denver 0 Analysis: After going 12-4 and leading the conference at the All-Star break, Colorado slowly was bled by injuries and has only one victory in regulation in its past 10 games, dating back to Aug. 18. It hasn't scored since Sept. 18. Having Swedish midfielder Anders Limpar back healthy and out from under suspension should help. But Colorado is 1-7 in four years at the Rose Bowl. Los Angeles led the league by allowing only 29 goals, turning a season around after Sigi Schmid replaced Octavio Zambrano as coach. The major worry for the Galaxy, which lost three of its final five, is Mexican forward Carlos Hermosillo, who suffered a strained left quadriceps Sunday and is questionable. | ALSO SEE MLS playoffs: Fire open defense of title Rapids coach eyes shakeup entering MLS playoffs Head-to-head: Chicago vs. Dallas Los Angeles Galaxy playoff roster Colorado Rapids playoff roster Major League Soccer playoff schedule |
