He is coming off a year in which he had 12 goals and eight assists in 71 games with 148 penalty minutes. The left wing reached two milestones -- his 100th NHL goal on Jan. 26 and his 500th game four days afterward.
Simon made $2.25 million last season.
Drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1990, Simon reached the NHL with Quebec in 1992 and played six full seasons with Washington before being traded to Chicago last season. He has 108 goals and 117 assists with 1,346 penalty minutes in 527 career games.
Terms were not announced.
Rasmussen had four goals and 12 assists in 57 games with Los Angeles last season.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound forward has 37 goals and 58 assists in 338 NHL games.
Cheechoo had nine goals and seven assists in 66 games last season with the Sharks. Long considered one of the organization's top prospects, he was San Jose's leading rookie goal-scorer.
Defenseman Scott Hannan, a restricted free agent who had a breakout season last winter, is the only Sharks veteran still unsigned by new general manager Doug Wilson. Earlier in the month, San Jose re-signed forwards Marco Sturm and Patrick Marleau and six other free agents.
In each of the past three seasons, former GM Dean Lombardi became involved in bitter contract disputes with at least one free agent, leading to extended holdouts. Wilson has made quick signings a priority this summer.
The Ducks also agreed to terms with free-agent left wings Casey Hankinson and Garrett Burnett.
Mottau, the Hobey Baker Award winner as college hockey's top player in 2000, played in four games with the Calgary Flames last year as well as Hartford and Saint John of the American Hockey League. He has no goals and three assists in 23 career NHL games with the Flames and New York Rangers.
The 25-year-old Mottau played four seasons at Boston College, where he had 27 goals and 130 assists in 163 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the seventh round of the 1997 NHL entry draft.
Berry played 43 games for the Capitals last season after he was acquired off waivers from Pittsburgh on Oct. 4. He had two goals, the first of his NHL career, and one assist and ranked fifth on the team with 87 penalty minutes.
Berry was drafted by Colorado in 1997 and was traded to Pittsburgh in 2002.
Helmer played 60 games with Vancouver's top minor league affiliate in Manitoba last season. He recorded seven goals, 24 assists and 82 penalty minutes. "Helmer is solid defensively and will score goals. He also adds depth to our NHL blueline," said Michael Barnett, the Coyotes' general manager. Grenier spent most of last season with the Coyotes' Springfield affiliate, recording two goals, 10 assists and 232 penalty minutes.
Low was second in the NHL with a career-high 234 penalty minutes last season. His 79 games played and two goals were also career highs. Walker played 16 games last year. He had one assist and 38 penalty minutes.
Kelly had two goals and three assists in 15 games for the Kings last season. He also had 19 goals and 44 assists in 54 games for the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. Kelly, 26, was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1995 entry draft. He has nine goals and 12 assists in 143 career games with the Oilers, Kings, New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning. |
