Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Druken began last season with Vancouver before being sent to Carolina in a four-player trade on Nov. 1. Toronto claimed him off waivers on Dec. 11 and he collected two assists in five games with the Maple Leafs before Carolina claimed him off waivers on Jan. 17. The 24-year-old Druken played just four games in his second stint with the Hurricanes. In 30 games in the American Hockey League, he had eight goals and 13 assists. The Hurricanes sent Druken back to Toronto on May 29 for defenseman Allan Rourke. In 137 NHL games, Druken has 27 goals and 32 assists.
Brown, a seven-year NHL veteran, had one goal, five assists and 117 penalty minutes in 69 games with Boston last season.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Brown played four seasons with Edmonton before being traded to the Bruins in March 2002.
Brown has 13 goals, 29 assists and 828 penalty minutes in 350 career NHL games.
Farrell had 24 points and 107 penalty minutes in 68 games with Portland of the AHL last season.
He played 12 NHL games with the Capitals over the past two seasons. He was an eighth-round draft pick in 1998.
Nashville sent Alexander Riazantsev to Washington in the trade.
Robidas played in 76 games for the Stars last season with three goals, 10 points and 35 penalty minutes. He had one assist and 20 penalty minutes in 12 playoff games.
The Stars got Robidas from Atlanta last October in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in last month's NHL draft, a pick they got back when they traded right wing Anthony Aquino to the Thrashers in March.
Robidas was originally drafted by Montreal in the seventh round (164th overall) in the 1995 draft.
Grier had 15 goals and 17 assists last season, his first with the Capitals, playing all 82 games. He had a goal and an assist in Washington's six-game playoff loss to Tampa Bay in the first round. The right wing was acquired by the Capitals on Oct. 7, 2002, in a trade with Edmonton. He played 448 games for the Oilers over six seasons, totaling 81 goals and 102 assists.
"I wanted to put together a staff with a lot of experience at all levels of the game," said Stirling, hired in June as Islanders head coach. Fraser was Atlanta's head coach from 1999-2002. Jackson led Lake Superior State to two NCAA titles in the 1990s before developing the U.S. national junior program. "To be able to bring in a man like Curt Fraser, who had a long NHL career as a player and was a head coach in the NHL the last four seasons in the Eastern Conference, is a huge benefit to me," Stirling said. "And it's not every day that you get to hire a man who was the head coach of two NCAA champions as your assistant."
Terms of the one-year deals were not disclosed. Hordichuk split 28 games between Florida and Phoenix last season, totaling 97 penalty minutes. Shvidki, the Panthers' first round pick in 1999, had four goals, two assists and 12 penalty minutes in 23 games with the Panthers last season. Goren had two goals and one assist in 14 games with Boston last season. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. |
