Snow, DiPietro sign one-year deals

Associated Press

New York Islanders: The team re-signed goalies Garth Snow and Rick DiPietro to one-year contracts Tuesday.

Snow, who turns 34 next Monday, was 16-17-5 with a .918 save percentage and career-best 2.31 goals against average last season. He became the starter after Chris Osgood was traded to St. Louis.

DiPietro, the No. 1 pick in the 2000 NHL draft, split last season between the Islanders and their AHL affiliate at Bridgeport. He was 2-5-2 with a 2.97 goals-against average and .894 save percentage with the Islanders and was 16-10-8 with a 2.14 goals against average at Bridgeport.

Boston Bruins: The Bruins agreed to a one-year contract Tuesday with veteran forward Ted Donato, who will return to the area where he played high school and college hockey and began his NHL career.

Donato, 34, played six years with the Bruins in the 1990s, but he was traded to the New York Islanders in 1998 and has since played with Ottawa, Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles, St. Louis and New York Rangers.

Donato was drafted by the Bruins in the 1987 NHL entry draft. He played at Harvard from 1987 to 1991, helping the Crimson to win an NCAA championship in 1989 and was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic team.

Donato had three 20-plus goal seasons for the Bruins with a career-high of 25 in 1996-1997.

He split last season between the Rangers and their AHL affiliate in Hartford.

Nashville Predators: The Predators signed forward Jim McKenzie and defenseman Andrei Mukhachev.

McKenzie played for the New Jersey Devils last season, scoring four goals and adding eight assists. In 14 seasons, McKenzie has 47 goals, 49 assists and 1,651 penalty minutes, including three seasons of more than 200 penalty minutes.

"Jim McKenzie is an established pro who will fit in well with our leadership corps and he immediately makes us a bigger and tougher team,'' Predators general manager David Poile said.

Mukhachev will play for CSKA Moscow of the Russian Hockey League this season before reporting to Nashville's training camp in September 2004. He was a seventh-round selection in this year's entry draft.

Terms of the contracts were not announced.

Tampa Bay Lightning: The team re-signed left wing Ben Clymer to a one-year contract.

The restricted free agent played in 65 games for the Lightning last season, recording six goals, 12 assists and 57 penalty minutes. He appeared in all 11 playoff games, and had two assists.

Clymer was signed as a free agent on Oct. 2, 1999, after playing one season with Seattle of the Western Hockey League and a season at the University of Minnesota.

Washington Capitals: The Capitals re-signed right wing Stephen Peat to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

Peat appeared in 27 games for the Capitals last season, scoring one goal. He missed six weeks with a hand injury, and he also spent time with minor league affiliate Portland.

Peat was acquired by the Capitals from Anaheim in 2000. He has played in 65 games for Washington.
