MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ The Minnesota Timberwolves held the San Antonio Spurs without a field goal for the first 8 1/2 minutes of the fourth quarter and held on for a 91-88 victory Tuesday night.

Malik Sealy scored 22 points for the Timberwolves, including a 17-foot jumper with a minute to play that gave Minnesota an 87-84 lead.

Tim Duncan, who led the Spurs with 27 points, answered with a bank shot, and following a Sam Mitchell miss, the Spurs had a chance to take the lead.

But Jaren Jackson missed two jumpers on San Antonio's next possession, and Terrell Brandon followed with two free throws. Then Mitchell iced the game with two more after Jackson missed a layup.

San Antonio had missed its first 11 shots of the fourth quarter, finally scoring on Mario Elie's layup with 3:33 left in the game. That pulled the Spurs within 83-80.

Kevin Garnett scored 13 of his 21 points in the third quarter to rally the Wolves to a 75-74 lead after trailing by as many as 10 points.

Brandon finished with 18 points and 13 assists for the Wolves, who have won seven of eight.

The Wolves, who trailed 59-50 early in the third quarter, rallied to take the lead at 70-69 on Garnett's 3-pointer. It was Minnesota's first lead since 24-23 with 11:23 left in the first half.

Sealy hit a 3-pointer from the right corner to end the third quarter, as Minnesota made 15 of 22 shots in the quarter.

San Antonio closed the first half on a 34-20 run to lead by eight at halftime. Late in the second quarter, referee Steve Javie called technical fouls within 16 seconds on Garnett and Wolves coach Flip Saunders for protesting calls.

It was the teams' first meeting since the Spurs eliminated the Wolves in four games in the first round of last year's NBA playoffs.

Notes: Minnesota won two of the four regular-season meetings with San Antonio last season. Only Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers managed to win more than one game against the Spurs last season. Only the Wolves and Knicks beat the Spurs in the playoffs. ... Since the start of the 1997-98 NBA season, San Antonio has allowed 100 points in only 19 of 163 games. ... Garnett and Duncan extended their consecutive double-figure scoring games streaks to 157 and 54, respectively. They have the longest and third-longest such streaks in the NBA. Duncan had his 29th double-double in 32 games this season. Garnett recorded his 20th in 28 games.
