BOSTON (AP) _ Brian Daubach doubled to score Boston's first run and added a two-run homer Wednesday night to lead the Red Sox to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox, a game called after six innings because of rain.

Ramon Martinez (3-2) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four in a steady rain that grew heavier around the fifth inning.

Cal Eldred (2-2) gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits and a walk, striking out three in 4 2-3 innings.

Rich Garces got the final out in the sixth and earned his first save when the game was called after a 1 hour, 48-minute rain delay.

Daubach doubled with two outs in the first inning, then scored on Nomar Garciaparra's double. In the third, Trot Nixon hit a two-out double and Daubach followed with his sixth homer.

Jason Varitek doubled to lead off the fifth, took third on Wilton Veras' single and scored when first baseman Paul Konerko waved at a grounder for an error. Veras scored on Nixon's sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.

Although Martinez was pitching well, lowering his ERA from 6.49 to 5.45, Tim Wakefield came out to start the sixth and immediately got into trouble. Jose Valentin singled and, after Frank Thomas hit into a fielder's choice, Magglio Ordonez hit his sixth homer to make it 5-2.

Konerko singled and was erased on Chris Singleton's fielder's choice. Singleton stole second without drawing a throw, then scored on Carlos Lee's single to make it 5-3.

Boston threatened in the sixth when Carl Everett walked and stole second base. After Mike Stanley walked, catcher Josh Paul tried to pick Everett off the bag and threw the ball into center field for an error, allowing the runners to move up.

One out later, Wilton Veras hit a bouncer down the third-base line that hit Everett for an out. Boston manager Jimy Williams came out to argue Everett was in foul territory, and thus safe, but the umpires were unconvinced.

Jose Offerman walked, but pinch-hitter Jeff Frye hit an inning-ending groundout.

Notes: The game started after a 14-minute rain delay. ... Thomas' fourth-inning single moved him into a tie with Ozzie Guillen for fifth place on the White Sox' career list at 1,608. ... Martinez had never before faced the White Sox. ... The White Sox were at full strength for the first time since seven were suspended for a total of 28 games for an April 22 brawl against the Detroit Tigers. They were 4-7 during the span. ... The Red Sox had six errors in their previous three games after only 14 in their first 26 games. ... Nixon nailed Paul at the plate after he tagged from third on Jose Valentin's fly out. ... Garciaparra went hitless in consecutive games Monday and Tuesday for only the third time in his career.
