CHICAGO (AP) _ Kent Bottenfield pitched seven shutout innings for his first American League win Saturday as the Anaheim Angels scored three first-inning runs to beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1.

Bottenfield (1-1), in his third start since being traded from the Cardinals, walked two and struck out one, allowing a seventh-inning double to Mark Johnson and four singles.

Shigetoshi Hasegawa relieved to start the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Greg Norton. Magglio Ordonez later singled, and the inning ended when right fielder Tim Salmon went to the warning track to haul in Chris Singleton's long drive.

Troy Percival pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.

The Angels had loaded the bases in the first inning Friday night but failed to score. This time, they converted off Kip Wells (0-2).

Adam Kennedy tripled before Mo Vaughn and Tim Salmon walked. Garret Anderson hit a fly-ball single to left center for the first run and Troy Glaus followed with a two-run double to left.

Chicago loaded the bases in the fourth, but Bottenfield got Carlos Lee on a long drive to right center.

In Bottenfield's first two starts this season, the Angels had scored just five runs and none of those while he was still in the game ... The announced crowd was 14,135, nearly 25,000 fewer than Friday night's home opener. ... Wells allowed seven hits and three runs in six innings, his longest outing in three starts.
