Our Emblem purchased for $10.1 million Associated Press LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The price paid for Our Emblem, sire of Triple Crown hopeful War Emblem, was $10.1 million, the new owners confirmed on Thursday. WinStar Farms and Taylor Made Farm bought Our Emblem from Allen and Audrey Murray's Murmur Farm near Darlington, Md., on Wednesday. The 11-year-old Our Emblem will stand the 2003 season at Taylor Made in Nicholasville, Ky., for a fee to be determined later. War Emblem, who won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, will try to become the 12th Triple Crown winner in next Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Ben Taylor, head of the Taylor Made Stallion Division, said: ``To own an 11-year-old son of Mr. Prospector, out of the broodmare of the year Personal Ensign, who is the sire of not only a Kentucky Derby winner and two other graded stakes winners already this year at $10 million it's a bargain.'' Our Emblem stood the 2002 breeding season at Murmur Farm, which bought the stallion from Claiborne Farm. Our Emblem is the leading North American sire this year with progeny earnings of more than $3.5 million. A son of Mr. Prospector, out of the undefeated mare Personal Ensign, Our Emblem won more than $300,000 during four years of racing. |
