INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Sparks showed
a national television audience they are ready for prime time.

Led by Tamecka Dixon and DeLisha Milton, the Sparks erased a
15-point second-half deficit and rallied for a 63-58 victory
over the Houston Comets.
In a contest televised on the Lifetime cable network, the Sparks
won for the 13th time in 14 games and ended the Comets' 10-game
winning streak. Los Angeles (17-3) moved within one game of
first-place Houston (19-3) in the Western Conference.
Both teams are charter WNBA franchises, but the Comets have won
all three championships while the Sparks have made the playoffs
just once. However, the gap between the rivals has closed
considerably and Los Angeles has a chance to end Houston's run.
Milton and Dixon scored 14 points each to key a balanced attack
for the Sparks, who for the first 30 minutes looked as if they
were unable to handle the pressure of the most anticipated game
this season. But in the final eight minutes, Dixon scored 10
points and Milton six.
Sheryl Swoopes scored 26 points and Tina Thompson added 17 for
the Comets, who clearly missed injured guard Cynthia Cooper. The
three-time WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player sat out with a
sprained right ankle.
Houston lost for the first time since a 90-84 setback at Los
Angeles on June 20.
