CHICAGO (AP) – Dema Kovalenko and Eric Wynalda scored second-half goals to lead the Chicago Fire to a 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Mutiny on Saturday night.

Kovalenko lifted a shot past Mutiny goalkeeper Scott Garlick from 10 yards out in the 51st minute.

Wynalda, traded from New England to Chicago on Thursday, scored in the 61st minute. Kovalenko recovered a loose ball and fed Wynalda, who fooled Garlick into diving early, and pushed a low shot into net for his first goal of the season.

Hristo Stoichkov made his first appearance for Chicago after recovering from a left ankle sprain. Wynalda replaced Stoichkov in the 51st minute.

Fire goalkeeper Zach Thornton earned his second consecutive shutout of Tampa Bay and his third shutout of the season.
