BOX SCORE
PASADENA, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes battled to a 1-1 draw at the Rose Bowl. Simon Elliot registered the Galaxy's goal, while San Jose midfielder Mauricio Solis accounted for the game-tying tally. Galaxy midfielder Simon Elliott capitalized on a San Jose defensive miscue to give Los Angeles the first-half lead. In the 22nd minute of play, Cobi Jones attempted to feed a streaking Luis Hernandez inside the Earthquakes' box. The San Jose defense managed to intercept the pass, but the clearance attempt landed in open space in front of the penalty arc. Elliott hammered the ball, sending it blazing past San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon, who could only watch as the shot hit the back of the net. Mauricio Solis scored the equalizer in the 32nd minute, sending the two teams to the halftime break knotted at 1-1. Iranian midfielder Khodadad Azizi launched a long free-kick directly into the middle of the Los Angeles penalty area. Solis ran unmarked onto the pass, nodding the ball easily past goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. The goal was Solis' first of the year, and the third of his career. Neither side could score in the second half, despite creating several quality chances. After two minutes of extra time, the game progressed to overtime. Ten extra minutes of play did not reveal a victor, however, and the two teams settled for a draw for the second time this season.
