TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Eduardo Hurtado and Henry Zambrano scored in the first half and the New York/New Jersey MetroStars surprised the playoff-bound Tampa Bay Mutiny 2-1 Saturday night.

The MetroStars, who have the worst record in Major League Soccer at 7-24, had lost 14 of 15 matches. New York/New Jersey won three of four games against Tampa Bay this season.

Chad McCarty scored for the Mutiny, who are battling Miami for third place in the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay (14-16) has lost three straight, but still have a six-point lead over the Fusion.

Hurtado scored in the fifth minute and Zambrano added his goal in the 22nd. Tampa Bay got within 2-1 on McCarty's goal in the 38th minute.

The Mutiny controlled play in the second half, but had two scoring chances stopped on strong plays by defenders Mark Semioli and Mohammad Khakpour.
