Jason Giambi Page 2 staff |
He's the reigning AL MVP and one of the most colorful guys in baseball. By next spring, he'll also be one of the highest-paid players in the game after he cashes in on free agency.
Giambi: He's on scholarship. He's not just my brother, he's my best friend. Especially in this lifestyle, it takes the pressure off to have someone around like him. 1a. Who cleans the toilet? Giambi: We pay someone to come in and do that. 2. When you appeared in GQ, did your parents ask for a photo and say "You look soooo good, Jason. Why don't you dress like this more often?" Giambi: No, they know me. They were more like, "You've got to be kidding me -- the guy put a suit on?" I actually own a lot of suits, but I'm just more of jeans and T-shirt guy.
Giambi: When they first saw it they were like, "Are you sure you know what you're doing?" But they got used to it. 3. You're a California native. Who is responsible for the energy crisis there? Giambi: Definitely the energy companies. They weren't making enough money so they said, "We'll give them a really big price increase." 4. Should people be allowed to use cell phones when they drive? Giambi: Hell, no. Not the way most idiots drive with them around here. But I'm probably the biggest culprit there is. My phone never stops ringing. 5. Which baserunner yaks the most at first base?
Giambi: I think I can already do the last one. Probably the strength of 100 men. 6a. You're about the first one to say that. Almost everyone else picks invisible. Giambi: No, strength is more practical. It would be such an advantage in this game. 7. There is a rumor that the Angels will be bought out by the league, and the Athletics would move to Anaheim. Should Disneyland be included as part of the deal? Giambi: I don't get that. The problem in Anaheim, as I understand it, is that they're not drawing enough fans, and that's the same problem we have in Oakland. I don't think that problem will get solved just by moving us to the same place.
Giambi: "The Outlaw Josey Wales." When I was a kid, my dad watched that all the time, and I would sit and watch it with him. 9. Which four people, living or dead, would you invite to dinner? Giambi: Definitely the Babe would be up there. He would make for a great party. Mickey Mantle. I'd like to see my grandfather again, too. And my brother. That would be a hell of a party. We wouldn't have enough alcohol. 10. Under penalty of having the CIA rip off your tattoo if you're wrong, will you be in Oakland next year? Giambi: I don't know. I really don't.
