DENVER (AP) _ Brad Ralph, a rookie who had not played in five previous preseason games, scored with 4:26 remaining Wednesday night as the Phoenix Coyotes tied the Colorado Avalanche 2-2 in an exhibition game.

Joe Sakic had a goal and an assist, and Chris Drury added two assists for the Avalanche, who went 0-for-6 on the power play and had defensive lapses on both Phoenix goals.

Peter Forsberg returned to Colorado's lineup after missing the first five preseason games. The all-star center is recovering from a sprained ankle sustained during a charity soccer game in his native Sweden two months ago.

Phoenix, shut out by Los Angeles on Tuesday night, tied the game when Ralph slapped an uncontended shot past goalie Patrick Roy. Colorado defenseman Greg de Vries left Ralph alone in the slot to double-team Jeremy Roenick in the corner.

Colorado's Jon Klemm hit the left post with 1:25 left in overtime, and Shane Doan failed to convert a breakaway opportunity 45 seconds later for Phoenix.

The Coyotes (2-4-2), who have scored 14 goals in eight games, tied the game at 1 when Mike Sullivan took advantage of a turnover behind the net by de Vries and scored unassisted at 5:26 of the second period.

Sakic's goal from the right circle gave Colorado (3-2-1) a 2-1 lead less than two minutes later.

Aaron Miller opened the scoring 70 seconds into the game as he took a crossing pass from Drury, slipped past Phoenix defenseman Joel Brouchard and beat goalie Robert Esche stick side.

The assist was Drury's first point of the preseason. He missed Colorado's first four games because of a contract dispute.
