Former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman announced his retirement Monday. Aikman, a 12-year veteran, led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl championships. Here are your thoughts:
Greatest moments in Aikman's career Best Aikman moment: Running the first touchdown in from inside the Buffalo 10-yard line in Super Bowl XXVI, a snapshot moment memorialized in the SI Cover "Ride 'Em, Cowboy!" Joel Parker San Jose, Calif. It pains me to see such a great QB like Troy Aikman have to hang up the cleats. He was the consummate professional, the glue that kept the Cowboys together during their championship run. My favorite memory of Troy came when he threw his first touchdown pass to Michael Irvin in his first Super Bowl. The pass was thrown on a rope and it made my little brother, who was a Bills fan, choke up and he literally got sick as a result. A great moment. I wish Troy the best of luck in his future endeavors. KO McNair, Texas Your question is what is my favorite Troy Aikman moment was: It is simply any time he walked on the field. Julie Montgomery Willard, Ohio My favorite moment has to be the bomb to Joey Galloway near the end of the game against the Redskins in the first Dallas-Washington game last year at FedEx field. I love the looks of the Redskins players after that play. Fawad Babar Burke, Va. Aikman was at his finest in the playoffs, and the one game I will never forget was the 30-20 victory over the 49ers in Jan. '93. He was absolutely brilliant in the second half as he led the young 'Boys to their first Super Bowl in 14 years. Thanks Troy for the great memories. Mark Wheeler Midland, Texas My favorite Troy Aikman moment is when he threw four touchdowns in Super Bowl XXVII when the Cowboys won 52-17. On that day, he became an elite quarterback in the league. That proved he could lead a team to victory in the big dance. Kevin Walker San Francisco, Calif.
My favorite moment from Aikman's career was actually from a loss, the 1994 NFC championship game. Aikman set all types of passing records as he almost single-handily led the Cowboys back from a 21-point, first-quarter deficit. I feel that game really demonstrated his leadership abilities and toughness.
The best memory I have is when Dallas pummeled Buffalo in the first of their two Super Bowls. Troy was running up the field with his right hand in the air with his index finger pointed straight up showing the world who was the best. Lcpl Averill USMC 29 Palms, Calif. Value Aikman's leadership and class Believe it or not, the thing I'll always remember about Troy is his leadership and willingness to back up his peers. This was epitomized when he was at Michael Irvin's trial everyday showing support for his teammate when others were too busy with their own lives. I'm ecstatic that he will never put on another uniform and the No. 8 will always be a symbol of class. James O'Connor Glastonbury, Conn.
Yes, I'm from Philly...and yes, I bleed green...and yes, I hate/loathe/despise the Dallas Cowboys...BUT, I've always liked Troy Aikman (as well as Emmitt). Those two players, in particular, brought more class and professionalism to that organization than anyone I can remember. Troy you are making the right decision, without question. You will succeed in anything you do. Please consider MNF & help dispose of Dennis Miller. Good luck...
