DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins tackle Richmond Webb is out of Saturday's AFC divisional
playoff at Denver, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Friday.
An MRI taken Thursday showed that Webb had suffered another tear in his left triceps, which was surgically repaired earlier this season.
Webb's injury means the Dolphins will be without three starters (possibly five) for the Broncos game. The other injured starters are defensive ends Tim Bowens and Jason Taylor, who are definitely out, and tight end Troy Drayton, who is not expected to play because of an ankle injury. Also, two running backs, starter Karim Abdul-Jabbar and reserve John Avery (quadriceps) may not play.
Upon the Dolphins' arrival in Denver on Friday evening, Miami coach Jimmy Johnson said Abdul-Jabbar is still being bothered by a swollen knee and pulled groin, and his status will be determined on how he runs in pregame warmups on Saturday.
Webb, who missed seven games during the regular season after
undergoing surgery on his left triceps, experienced soreness in the muscle after Thursday's practice.
With Webb out, Brent Smith moves over from left guard to
left tackle, where he made five starts in Webb's place. John Bock
takes over as left guard.
Abdul-Jabbar sat out Thursday's workout with a strained left
quadriceps. The Dolphins continued to list Abdul-Jabbar as probable,
having already been on the injury report with a sprained toe.
"Karim's got a combination of things," Johnson
said. "He's not 100 percent, but that's to be expected this time
of year."
Two weeks ago, Abdul-Jabbar sat out Miami's regular-season
finale against Atlanta after suffering concussions in back-to-back
games. He came back to rush for 95 yards and a touchdown in the
Dolphins' 24-17 wild-card victory over Buffalo last week.
Avery, Abdul-Jabbar's backup, also is listed as
probable after spraining his right ankle on a kickoff return
against Buffalo. He made his way through the locker room Thursday
with ice packs on the ankle and his left quadriceps.
"We're banged up, but we've got the type of team to respond to
the challenge," Avery said.
Drayton missed practice for the third consecutive
day with a sprained right ankle. He and long snapper Frank
Wainright (separated right shoulder) remained listed as doubtful.
Ed Perry, a second-year pro, would start for Drayton and handle
Wainright's responsibilities if they can't play Saturday.
"Ed Perry has had a tremendous amount of playing time this
year. He'll be fine," Johnson said.
Wide receiver O.J. McDuffie (sprained right foot) and reported
no ill effects. "No way I'm going to miss this one," said
McDuffie, the NFL's top receiver with 90 catches during the regular
season.
