CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Svetlana Volnaya scored 20 points as No. 15 Virginia opened the season with a 100-61 victory over Mount St. Mary's in the Preseason NIT on Friday night.
Telisha Quarles added 19 points for Virginia, and Schuye LaRue had 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. Dean'na Mitchelson and Chalois Lias each had 10 points.
Kia Williams had 14 points and eight rebounds for Mount St. Mary's, and Beth Foster added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Virginia will face George Washington on Sunday in the second round of the Preseason NIT.
