Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter are both very spectacular players with a penchant for making highlight-caliber plays, but Kobe is a little more creative in getting his shot than Carter is, both in the air and on the dribble.
While Carter is pure power, thundering down dunks with authority, Kobe will go in the air, then move his body to elude defenders and somehow get to the basket and finish with either hand. He's an amazing athlete. I've seen him take high passes at the basket that aren't quite on target. But he goes up and gets them and then finishes with agility.
Kobe is the more complete player. He is a better defender, capable of shutting down a perimeter player. I don't think Carter has that skill yet or the lateral foot quickness a player needs to be a great defender. Kobe plays defense with competitiveness and determnatin. Carter has those qualities on offense, but not to as a degree at the defensive end. Kobe takes a challenge and will close people out.
Kobe is more like Michael Jordan than anybody else playing in the NBA.

Vince Carter is an exciting, acrobatic player who can get to the lane. He has the leaping ability to rise over players and dunk the ball. He also has the vision to come up with creative shots that we haven't seen since the Jordan era, which spawned all those comparisons from the day he entered the league.
He is the best player in the league in terms of getting the fans involved and excited. He raises the level of his teammates and the intensity in the building. He is a slam dunk champion and capable of dropping 50 on you any night. Vince and Kobe are Batman and Robin. You can have a great argument about who's Batman and who's Robin.
