PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Trail Blazers Damon Stoudamire and Rasheed Wallace admitted smoking marijuana to a Washington state trooper during a traffic stop last week, police said Tuesday.

The two, along with Stoudamire's friend, Edward L. Smith, were cited for marijuana possession last Friday after they were stopped for speeding on the way back from a road game in Seattle.

The arresting officer, Sgt. Rob Huss, didn't recognize the NBA stars until backup officers arrived at the scene, said Garvin March, a spokesman for the Washington State Patrol.

Smith, the driver, passed a field sobriety test at the scene; the others were not given alcohol tests, March said.

Officers used a drug-sniffing dog to search the car and found about 1 gram of marijuana, March said.

"They were asked whether or not they were smoking,'' he said. "Apparently Wallace admitted first that he was smoking and then Stoudamire and the driver, Edward, later admitted they were smoking.''

According to police reports, Stoudamire and Wallace eventually told officers they had been smoking marijuana, but had finished it all.

"Stoudamire hesitantly admitted that marijuana had been smoked in the vehicle, but stated that it had all been burned up and/or smoked,'' the report reads. Later, Wallace told officers "they had smoked one 'J' but that all the drug was gone, according to the report.

But Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Jeremy Randolph said Wallace wasn't completely truthful in his answer to police.

"The question (the trooper asked) was, is there any more (marijuana) left and they said, 'No we smoked it all up,''' Randolph said. "And unfortunately they obviously hadn't.''

The police documents detailing a search of Stoudamire's yellow Humvee 2 indicate officers found a small quantity of pot in the glove box, a burnt marijuana cigarette next to Stoudamire's seat, and a small tin with marijuana residue in front of Wallace's seat.

"If they're convicted, they'll do the time,'' Randolph said. "And they'll do it at the convenience of our court system, not the Portland Trail Blazers.''

Stoudamire and Wallace were cited with a misdemeanor for marijuana possession and released. Their arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 6. The two declined to comment at Tuesday's shootaround.

Earlier this year, Stoudamire was charged with a felony after police found a large bag of marijuana in his home while investigating a burglar alarm. A judge has declared the search illegal, but prosecutors are appealing.

On the court, Stoudamire was benched in the third quarter of a game at Houston on Nov. 12 following a heated exchange with Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks. Stoudamire has played in only two games since then after seeing action in Portland's victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday.
