PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Trail Blazers co-captains Damon Stoudamire and Rasheed Wallace weren't going to be held out of the lineup tonight, a day after being cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Portland coach Maurice Cheeks expected Stoudamire and Wallace to play against the Sacramento Kings, but left himself some leeway. "Absolutely. It depends on the rotation, though,'' Cheeks said after the team's shootaround Saturday. "They're deeply sorry for what happened, as we all are,'' Cheeks said. "I think they apologized and the apology was heartfelt. I don't think it was just something to say. "We're all professionals and we understand we have a job to do. We have to learn to do things the right way and we can't get caught up in situations.'' Stoudamire has not played in two of Portland's last three games. Earlier this year, Stoudamire was charged with a felony after police found a large bag of marijuana in his home while investigating a burglar alarm. A judge declared the search illegal, but prosecutors are appealing. Center Dale Davis said the Trail Blazers were focused on basketball, not off-court troubles. "Things happen sometimes and you just have to work and move past it,'' Davis said. "We're focused on basketball and everything else will take care of itself. We just gear toward basketball, that's all we can do.'' |
