MINNEAPOLIS -- There were a number of big performances in the national semifinals, but to me the PTPers were Jason Gardner of Arizona and Shane Battier of Duke.
Gardner hit several key 3-pointers in the first half for the Wildcats and finished with 21 big points -- and only one turnover in 38 minutes. He also did a great job on the defensive end, as Arizona's guards clearly outplayed Michigan State, big-time.
Battier showed once again the will to win. When the Blue Devils were down 39-17 vs. Maryland, they did not quit. Battier hit four 3-pointers in the comeback and converted 9-of-11 free throws.
More importantly, he played all 40 minutes. In fact, he has played all but one minute in the last four tournament games, showing he is a true workhorse and a true All-American. That's why he was my PTPer of the year.
