Solid Gold PTPers lead way to Final Four

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

There were some super performances in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight. Here's a look at my Solid Gold PTPers, the guys who made it happen in leading their teams to the Final Four.

Let's start with Maryland, where Lonny Baxter was super, scintillating and sensational. He set the tone early against the Collins twins and Stanford, establishing position on the baseline and scoring often. Baxter's aggressiveness has been a positive for Gary Williams' team.

Baxter scored 26 points and grabbed 14 boards against Georgetown, and put home 24 points against the Cardinal. He is the MVP of my Solid Gold PTPers.

Jason Williams and Shane Battier have been the premier 1-2 punch in America. Williams was brilliant against UCLA, scoring 34 big ones. Battier has been Mr. Consistent, scoring at least 20 points while grabbing a minimum of 10 rebounds in each NCAA Tournament game so far.

Charlie Bell has been the steady senior leader for the Spartans. Michigan State is in its third straight Final Four, quite an accomplishment. Bell did it on both ends against Temple, holding Lynn Greer in check for much of the game.

Loren Woods was brilliant in the second half against Illinois. He blocked shots, rebounded, scored inside and converted crucial free throws down the stretch. His presence against the strong-rebounding Spartans will be a factor this weekend.

There you have it: Baxter, Williams, Battier, Bell and Woods. That's a pretty good lineup, baby!
