Source: Browns may pursue Dillon, pending draft

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Cleveland Browns fans should not get too excited about reports that they may pursue Bengals free agent running back Corey Dillon after the April 21-22 draft.
New Browns coach Butch Davis is not convinced Dillon is the "total package" as a back when you weigh in the ultimate price tag of $6 to 7 million per year. However, the Browns are keeping the door open just in case the Bengals get frustrated with their contract discussions with Dillon and draft a running back next month.
The Bengals have said they intend to match any offer that Dillon receives as a transition free agent. They would be entitled to no compensation if they decided not to match an offer.
The Browns have visited with two free agent RBs, Charlie Garner and Priest Holmes, but likely will wait until the draft to make a decision.
The Browns have the third pick in the draft but have been talking to other teams, such as the Green Bay Packers (10th), to trade out of that slot. However, the Arizona Cardinals, picking second, also are willing to deal, which diminishes Cleveland's bargaining power.
