  RECAP | BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Vicky Bullett had season highs of 22 points and eight rebounds as the Washington Mystics held Detroit's offense in check and defeated the Shock 80-55 Monday night.

Bullett went 8-of-12 from the field.

Chamique Holdsclaw added 17 points and eight rebounds, and Murriel Page had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Mystics, while Nikki McCray added 12 points in just 25 minutes.

Andrea Nagy
Washington's Andrea Nagy, beating Dominique Canty to this loose ball, had a game-high seven assists Monday.

Washington (5-3) remained second in the Eastern Conference. It's a half game behind the Cleveland Rockers, who defeated Sacramento on Monday.

Detroit (4-5) set a WNBA record for points in a half and in a game in its 111-74 rout of Indiana on Sunday.

The Shock scored the league-record 66 points in the second half of that game, but never got its offense in gear against the Mystics and appeared tired at times.

Washington shot 53 percent from the floor, and its defense limited the Shock to just 20 second-half points and held them to 34 percent shooting from the floor.

None of the Detroit starters made it into double figures; reserve Tamicha Jackson led the Shock with 13 points. The Shock's starters combined for only 23 points.

The Mystics made five of their first six shots and hit 61 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 45-35 halftime lead.

Washington took charge with an eight-point run that gave it a 30-24 lead with 5:51 left in the first half. Detroit had four turnovers and went scoreless during a stretch of 4:51 as the Mystics took the lead for good.
